1980s Land Rover Llama prototype exhibited at the Dunsfold Collection Open Day 2006, Dunsfold, England, UK. --- No releases available. Automotive trademarks are the proper, authorization may be needed for some uses.--- Information: Land Rover Llama Box Body belonging to the Dunsfold Collection: chassis number 8AALFC002, registration number C413 SNP, engine type 3.5 8-cyl petrol, gearbox type 5-speed manual. Vehicle History: This Llama of 1986 was number 2 of 11 prototypes built to replace the aging 101 Forward Control. With a wheel base of 110" the laod capacity is 1.75 tonne. The axles are similar to civilian Defender 110, bur wider, a limited slip differential would have been standard. The chassis is one off, the cab is a fibreglass construction and tilts for engine access. Only the V8 engine was offered on trials vehicles, hence the MOD's relcutance to accept it. Stability was also a problem on early trials. This vehicle appears to have been on cold weather testing to Scandinavia. Had this been three years later the 200tdi would have been around and the whole project may have been successful..
